TREATMENT PROGRAMS
Treatment programs generally include one or more treatment approaches, directed by teams experienced in chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgical oncology, gynecologic oncology and hormone therapy. Comprehensive Cancer Center's medical staff includes medical oncologists/hematologists, a radiation oncologist, two surgical oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, a specialist in gastrointestinal malignancies, and a clinical psychologist and pain management specialist. The medical team also includes registered nurses, experienced in oncology care, who can provide phone consultation to patients at home. Through this service, the patient maintains an important link to the Center as well as ongoing access to our physicians.
Gastrointestinal Malignancies: The Gastrointestinal Cancer program features those experienced in Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal Malignancies who treat cancers of the colon, esophagus, gallbladder, liver, pancreas and rectum. Patients are seen for consultation or ongoing cancer care. The GI Program offers a variety of treatment options which may include chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery.
Gynecologic Oncologists at CCC are dedicated to the comprehensive care and treatment of women diagnosed with pelvic cancers, precancerous conditions and complex surgical problems. The Gynecologic Oncologists completed their training in Gynecology & Obstetrics and in the surgical treatment of female reproductive organs with cancer.
Medical Oncologists/Hematologists at CCC offer comprehensive diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care for patients with solid tumors and hematologic malignancies. Medical Oncologists completed their training in Internal Medicine and in cancer. We are fortunate at CCC to be associated with doctors who have expertise in brain cancer, breast cancer, colon/rectal cancer, lung cancer, melanoma, multiple myeloma, lymphoma, prostate cancer, sarcoma, and bone marrow/stem cell transplantation. Where medically appropriate, our physicians may present patients with opportunities for participation in National Cancer Institute clinical trials through our research department.
Pain Management: Chronic pain is one of the symptoms most feared by cancer patients. The multidisciplinary Cancer Pain Management Service at CCC is a psychosocial program dedicated to treating th aspects of the cancer patient's pain. In coordination with the referring physician, our team, which includes physicians and our staff psychologist, develops an individualized pain and symptom treatment program that incorporates some of the newest technologies with a focus on quality of life.
Radiation Oncologists at CCC offer the option of consultation or ongoing care to adults diagnosed with cancer. Radiation Oncologists were trained in Internal Medicine and in the treatment of patients requiring radiation treatments for cancer. We are fortunate to have a Radiation Oncology team who are experienced in: brain (benign & malignant), breast cancer, esophageal cancer, gynecologic/women's cancers, lung cancer, multiple myeloma, mycosis fungoides (skin lymphoma), prostate cancer, rectal cancer and bone marrow/stem cell transplantation.
The Radiation Oncology Department offers: multileaf collimation (MLC), mini-multileaf collimation (MMLC), three dimensional (3-D) treatment planning, stereotactic radiosurgery, stereotactic radiotherapy, and high and low dose brachytherapy (i.e., radioactive implants).
Surgical Oncologists at CCC offer consultation, surgery and ongoing care to adults diagnosed with cancer. The Surgical Oncologists completed their training in Surgery and are experienced in cancer operations. The Surgical Oncologists at CCC are experts in: breast cancer, endocrine tumors, esophageal cancer, gastro-intestinal cancers (liver, bile duct, colon, pancreas, rectal sphincter preservation) melanoma and thyroid cancers.
