What is complimentary medicine? A therapy is generally called complementary when it is used in conjunction with conventional treatments. Special diets, vitamins, herbs, chiropractic care, massage therapy, psychotherapy, acupuncture, biofeedback and spiritual practices are among the most common therapies.
How does the complementary program at CCC work? Before starting any complementary medicine therapy, patients should always talk to their physician about how these therapies could interact with their conventional treatments and medications. At CCC, we encourage open and ongoing communication with each patient regarding their individual cancer treatment plan. Patients meet with a member of our Cancer Center team. Depending on individual circumstances, this might be their oncologist, nurse, pharmacist, psychologist or dietician. To help coordinate care, the Cancer Center team meets weekly to evaluate patients' progress throughout their treatment.
What complimentary services are provided at CCC? Our program offers individual consultation as well as a variety of support groups and workshops. (click here for listing) Upon request, our clinical staff can provide referrals for specialty services. Patients are advised to check with their insurance company in advance to determine whether these off-site services are covered.
