The Hospice of the Desert Communities was created to help ease a person's symptoms from terminal illness and compassionately care for their needs – physical, emotional, social and spiritual. Many of our patients are in the final phases of cancer, Alzheimer's, AIDS, and heart and lung disease. At the same time, the hospice staff helps family members handle their own emotional journey and take a temporary break from care giving duties. The hospice team includes a medical director, registered nurses, certified home care aides, certified nurse aides, social workers, and spiritual and pastoral counselors. Each member of the team has special training in pain management, the grieving process and communication to help patients and caregivers with sensitivity and compassion. The Hospice of the Desert Communities services include: - Inpatient Services for patients who require more intense control of their symptoms or pain than can be given in their own home
- In-home Services so that patients may be cared for in the comforting, familiar surroundings of their own home
- Community Outreach to help members of our neighborhoods understand how to care for those with terminal illnesses and become aware of hospice services
- Caregiver Support provides emotional assistance to family members/caregivers
- 24-hour On-call Availability seven days a week
- Loss/Grief Counseling offered by bereavement and spiritual counselors for patients and family members and the community
- Pain and Symptom Management provided with appropriate medications as well as stress management techniques
- Psychosocial Support offered by social workers and counselors to help patients and caregivers receive psychological assistance
- Respite Services to allow family members to have a short break from care giving
- Support Groups that encourages patients and family members share their experiences and concerns with others in similar situations
