DIABETES SERVICES


Diabetes Management
This comprehensive overview includes blood glucose monitoring, insulin injection, diet and exercise. Group and individual consultation available.  Physician referral needed.

Diabetes Support Group
Facilitated by a Diabetes Nurse Educator, this group meets for open discussion on diabetes concerns and offers a support system for patients who have been diagnosed with diabetes.  Family and friends are also welcome.  The group meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 9:00am to10:30am in the Stergios Bldg. At the front of the main hospital campus.  No reservation necessary.

CARDIOVASCULAR INSTITUTE


Blood Pressure Screening
Every 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month in the Stergios Bldg. from 8:00am to 10:00am.

Cardiac Rehabilitation
This program offers ECG and cardiac nurse monitored exercise and risk factor management for persons with post-myocardial infarction, coronary artery bypass, and/or stable angina. Physician referral needed. 

Leg Pain Support Group
Meets every 2nd Friday of each month (except June, July and August) in the Stergios Bldg., from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.


COMPREHENSIVE CANCER CENTER


Cancer Workshops & Support Groups
The Comprehensive Cancer Center at Desert Regional Medical Center offers group and individual support for patients and/or their family members/caregivers.  For information, call 760-416-4873.

Cancer Support Group
Knowing you are not alone in the fight against cancer can help boost confidence and coping skills.  In our “Well-Beings Meetings”, patients come together to support and educate each other.

Cancer Support Groups - in Spanish
This program is geared to provide education and support for Spanish-speaking patients and thier family members.  Para mas informacion, llama (760) 416-4809

Adaptive Yoga
These classes allow patients with physical limitations to experience the benefits of exercise.  Family members are also welcome.  Classes are held on Thursdays, 12:Noon - 1:00pm.  Cost is $5.00 per person.  For information call (760) 416-4809.

Spiritual Reflection Group
The experience of cancer can leave many individuals with new insight about themselves and their lives.  The Spiritual Reflection Group is designed to help patients explore these insights and develop a greater understanding about the impact of cancer on their lives.

Navigator Program
Newly diagnosed Breast Cancer patients may be provided a mentor – someone who has experienced breast cancer & has been trained to help provide new patients support and education along the way.  Learn to manage the emotional and physical challenges of the illness and its treatment.

Look Good….Feel Better
Sponsored by the American Cancer Society, this program gives patients hands-on experience with how to enhance their appearance during and after therapy.
 
New Patient Orientation Luncheon
Held monthly, this is a chance to learn about the many services offered through our Comprehensive Cancer Center.  Registration required.

Art Therapy Program
Learn about the benefits of art in coping with cancer.  Patients and family members have the opportunity to complete a small art project.  Join us on the 2nd floor Patient Resource Center.  No art experience necessary and materials are included.

Complementary Medicine Program
Our program offers a variety of complementary medicine modalities including Chinese Medicine, chiropractics, nutrition, education on herbs/supplements, biofeedback, spiritual counseling and physical strengthening/rehabilitation.

Lenscape Project
Using photography, patients can create meaningful works of art to chronicle their cancer experience and learn about themselves.  No photography experience required and materials are provided.

 HEALTHY BEGINNINGS CLASSES


DRMC offers a full schedule of classes taught by professional nurses, certified childbirth instructors and lactation consultants who can prepare you for pregnancy, childbirth and parenting. 
To register for any of the following classes, call 760-416-4754. 

All classes are available in Spanish and English.

Free pregnancy tests & physician referrals

Essentials of Pregnancy
This class describes the growth and development of your baby in the womb.  You’ll get important information about your pregnancy.

Sweet Success Program
This program offers comprehensive education and counseling fro pregnant women who have diabetes or develop diabetes during their pregnancy.

Prepared Childbirth
This series of classes will prepare you and your partner for the special day  You will learn breathing and relaxation techniques along with other important information about your delivery.

Infant feeding
Important information on feeding your baby including the how-to’s of breast feeding or the preparing and storing of formula.

Lactation Support
A certified lactation consultant is available to breast feeding moms for individual counseling and support.

Infant care
Lessons on bathing, diapering and interacting with your baby.

Infant and child CPR
You will get instructions and practice for lifesaving infant CPR and child CPR, the Heimlich maneuver and child safety.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation
If you have shortness of breath from emphysema, asthma, chronic bronchitis or pulmonary fibrosis, call us to find out about our course.  Physician referral needed.

Arthritis Movement Class
Meets every Tuesday and Thursday, 10:00-11:00 am.

Better Breathers Class
The aftercare class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with special guest speakers each month.

Parkinson’s Support Group
Our mission is to obtain a greater knowledge and understanding of the disease thereby reaching for a better quality of life. These support groups meet: 

  • In Palm Springs every 4th Tuesday of the month (except July &August). Meetings are held at Desert Regional Medical Center in the Stergios Bldg. from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.
  • Meetings are also held in Apple Valley, Menifee, Clairmont and Riverside.

Caregiver Support
For information about resources, support, education and coping skills to assist in caregiving.

Grief Support Groups
These classes focus on assisting bereaved individuals and families on how to understand and grow through the grieving process. Groups meet every Wednesday 2:00-3:30pm in the Hospice of the Desert office across from the hospital campus, at 555 Tachevah suite 3E-101.
