1 of 13 Highest Value Hospitals in the United States
Desert Regional Medical Center was recognized in 2008 by The Leapfrog Group as 1 of 13 "Highest Value" hospitals in the United States. The Leapfrog Group is the first national quality organization to evaluate and identify hospitals for providing excellent quality and demonstrating appropriate use of resources for specific procedures.
The Joint Commission (Formerly called The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations)
The Joint Commission is the oldest and most respected healthcare accreditation organization in the nation. At the conclusion of its most recent triennial hospital-wide survey in August 2008, TJC awarded Desert Regional Medical Center full and unconditional accreditation.
Weight Loss Surgery
The bariatric program at Desert Regional Medical Center has been designated a Center of Excellence for Weight Loss Surgery by the following organizations:
- Surgical Review Corporation on behalf of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (recognized by Medicare)
- Blue Cross of California
- National Blue Cross Blue Shield Association
- United Healthcare
Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons
The Comprehensive Cancer Center at DRMC has earned the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons. Only 95 cancer treatment programs in the United States met quality standards to achieve the award in 2008. This number represents approximately 19% of the 478 programs surveyed during this period. Desert Regional was the only cancer program in the Coachella Valley to receive the honor.
Circle of Excellence
Tenet Healthcare Corporation presented Desert Regional Medical Center its 2008 Circle of Excellence Award, which honors quality, patient and physician satisfaction, and operational performance.
Chest Pain Center with PCI
Desert Regional Medical Center was awarded the designation of Chest Pain Center with PCI, the highest level of accreditation from the Society of Chest Pain Centers. www.scpcp.org.
STEMI Receiving Center
Riverside County has designated Desert Regional Medical Center a STEMI Receiving Center for victims of acute heart attack.
American Heart Association
Desert Regional Medical Center has been awarded the American Heart Association’s Get with the Guidelines - Heart Failure Gold Performance Award and Get with the Guidelines - Coronary Artery Disease Silver Performance Achievement Award.
This prestigious level of recognition was achieved by demonstrating 85% adherence to GWTG performance measures for 12 (Silver level) to 24 (Gold level) consecutive months.
HHS/OneLegacy Organ and Tissue Donation Award
DRMC was one of 22 hospitals out of 200 who received the Silver 1 level award from the US Department of Health and Human Services, in partnership with OneLegacy, the organ and tissue recovery organization serving the seven-county greater Los Angeles area.
United Healthcare Center of Excellence Designations
DRMC is proud to be designated by UnitedHealth as a Center of Excellence in the areas of total joint replacement, bariatric surgery and cardiology. The UnitedHealth Premium designation program recognizes physicians and hospitals that meet or exceed quality of care and cost efficiency standards.

DRMC has been recognized as a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care by demonstrating a commitment to quality care, resulting in better overall outcomes for our cardiac patients. DRMC meets the rigorous evidence-based selection criteria, developed in collaboration with expert physician and medical organizations, including the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), and is subject to periodic re-evaluation as criteria continue to evolve.
